A House of Prayer: Learning to pray from the Psalms

The Church – at it’s best – is a house of prayer. A people of prayer. We are people of prayer because the God of the universe, our Maker, Sustainer, and Father – desires a conversation with us. To be a Christian is to grow up into this conversation – to learn to speak with and to God in a way that over time deepens and grows into the mature conversation God desires to have with us.

To mature into this conversation, to become a house of prayer, we need help. We need guides and teachers in how to learn how to speak God.

The Psalms is one place we learn how to have this conversation with God because it is where Jesus got so much of his prayer language. The Psalms are where we learn how to pray. It is the prayer book of God’s people – the Psalms is a house where we learn how to pray – that we might become the house of prayer that we are meant to be.
